Finding an Australian employer willing to sponsor you can be difficult, particularly if your occupation does not fit neatly into the usual skilled migration pathways.
A Designated Area Migration Agreement (DAMA) can create another option. It allows participating regions to address local workforce shortages by giving employers access to skilled and semi-skilled workers from overseas.
For some people, a DAMA visa Australia pathway can open a door that other visa options may not.
One of the main attractions of a DAMA is that some agreements offer concessions to standard skilled migration requirements.
Depending on the specific agreement, concessions may relate to areas such as age, English language, salary or work experience. These are not available under every DAMA, and eligibility depends on the occupation and individual circumstances.
You will also need an employer that can sponsor you through the relevant DAMA arrangement.
So, seeing an occupation listed under a DAMA arrangement does not mean you automatically qualify. The employer, role and candidate all need to meet the relevant requirements.
